Natural charcoal is the oldest sketching and drawing material in the world. The grey-blue stroke is soft and easy to apply on the paper, and can be layered and spread with ease. It can be easily erased and reapplied. The blue hue has always caused fascination, since the time of the old masters. Natural charcoal in a pencil leaves a much blacker line. Pressed charcoal in a pencil /combination of charcoal and clay/ has a rich black color, deep tones and can be produced in different degrees of hardness.
