Avro Lancaster Mk. I/III prefab model

The four-engined Avro Lancaster was undoubtedly the most famous of all the RAF heavy bombers of the Second World War. From 1942 it formed the backbone of the night bomber offensive deep into Germany and gained fame by sinking the Tirpitz and destroying the Möhne and Edertalsperre. The Lancaster was able to carry bombs up to 9,980 kg, the heaviest single bomb being the Grand Slam. It served in 68 RAF bomber squadrons until 1945 and flew a total of over 156,000 sorties. Of the total of 7,300 machines produced, almost half were lost during these missions. Today, only two flying copies remain - one in Great Britain and one in Canada.
